Two galleries of botanical art add yet more layers of interest and Kew Palace, the summer home of King George III, opens daily from April to September. Kew’s floral year starts with snowdrops and crocuses before the annual Orchids Festival, running from early February to early March, brings a burst of exotic colour. Cherry blossom, magnolias and bluebells herald the spring while summer offers English roses and the Mediterranean Garden. The Great Board Walk Borders – dazzling herbaceous borders made up of over 30,000 flowers –provide a swathe of colour from early spring to late autumn but are at their best during the summer. The Arboretum’s 14,000 trees provide glorious, autumnal hues.
